Szeleta Park Visitor Centre

Good news: the new Szeleta Park Visitor Centre is just a 5–10 minute walk from our place. Set at the eastern gateway to the Bükk in the Csanyik Valley, it’s designed as a flagship hub for ecotourism in Hungary.

What you’ll experience

• Interactive presentations by Bükk National Park experts on local conservation, hydrography, and geology

• Engaging stories about the caves and the prehistoric people who used them

• Enough to fill a day in a modern complex of nearly 2,000 m²

Main exhibition
Secrets of the Bükk Caves Through the Millennia – The Nature of Prehistoric Man introduces:

• the natural treasures of the Bükk

• a concise land-history of the region

• the area’s unique waters and cave system

• the famous Beehive Stones (rock “hives”)

• typical flora and fauna of the mountains

• the world-renowned Szeleta culture, cradle of Hungarian cave research

Content comes to life through interactive stations and 2D/3D films. Themed environmental education modules serve primary and secondary school groups, with a dedicated activity room available.

For kids (5–12)
The indoor Stone Age Karst Adventure playhouse lets children descend into a mock “Töbör pit,” explore a multi-level tunnel system, spot Bükk wildlife, “meet” a sabre-toothed cat, and even try archaeology. Outdoors you’ll find the Bikkmakk playground on the forecourt and, within the paid park area, the Spider’s Web playground.

Food, books & gifts
Grown-ups can refuel at the Szeleta Park bistro. The gift shop features items from the Bükk National Park’s Protected Register and the newly reissued novel The Man with the Stone Axe.

Step outside the building
Follow the Future Trail to a rock park plus bird and insect gardens. If you’re up for a longer walk, the 3.5 km Szinva Trail starts nearby at the Herman Ottó Memorial Park.
