    It\u2019s an amazing\u2014slightly eerie\u2014sight, unlike anything else in the mountains. In this karst-rich limestone landscape, you get a real sense of what lies beneath your feet: caves, shafts, and hidden chambers. A moss-draped amphitheatre of boulders narrows into a funnel-shaped sinkhole<\/strong> that drops into a vast, gaping mouth locals call \u201cDante\u2019s Inferno.\u201d<\/strong> The name fits. Stepped rock chutes<\/strong> and shelves lead down to a hall-like cavity<\/strong>, where tree trunks and boulders rest beneath a natural rock arch. The so-called Courtyard Stone<\/strong> is actually a collapsed cave chamber<\/strong>; look closely and you\u2019ll spot cave formations on the walls\u2014calcite crusts<\/strong> and pea-stone (pisolitic) deposits<\/strong>\u2014silent clues to the underground world shaping the B\u00fckk.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/article>\t <\/div> <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    Goat-Hole Cave (Kecske-lyuk-barlang)<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Tucked into the Forr\u00e1s Valley<\/strong> on Miskolc\u2019s edge, Goat-Hole is a periodic spring cave<\/strong> carved in Triassic limestone<\/strong>, stretching about 480 m<\/strong>. A roomy entrance hall<\/strong> tapers into a winding stream-bed corridor<\/strong>, where you\u2019ll spot calcareous deposits<\/strong> and flowstone (stalactite flows)<\/strong> along the walls. The system ends at a clay siphon<\/strong>.<\/p>

    Why it matters<\/strong><\/p>

    • Archaeology:<\/strong> Finds from the B\u00fckk culture<\/strong> (Neolithic) were recovered here.<\/p><\/li>

    • Unique life:<\/strong> A rich cave fauna lives in these waters and crevices, including the endemic Gebhardt\u2019s blind amphipod<\/strong> (Niphargus gebhardti<\/em>), several spider species<\/strong>, and protected bats<\/strong> that form large winter colonies.<\/p><\/li>

    • Protection:<\/strong> Designated a Special Protection Area<\/strong> in 1982<\/strong> for its biological and archaeological value.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

        Anna Cave (Anna-barlang) \u2013 A Rare Travertine Wonder<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

        There are only a handful of caves like this on Earth. Anna Cave<\/strong> was declared protected in 1951<\/strong> and specially protected in 1982<\/strong>. Its entrance sits in Lillaf\u00fcred<\/strong>, at the lowest level of the Hanging (Hillside) Gardens<\/strong> beneath the Palace Hotel<\/strong>, right beside the Szinva Waterfall<\/strong>. The ticket office<\/strong> is in the small tower one terrace above the entrance.<\/p>

        What makes it unique<\/strong>
        Unlike most limestone caves carved by underground rivers, Anna Cave formed inside calcareous tufa (travertine)<\/strong> deposited by the Szinva Spring<\/strong>. The cavity system is the same age as the rock<\/strong>\u2014it began forming roughly 150\u2013200 thousand years ago<\/strong> and, in places, is still forming today<\/strong>.<\/p>

        • Petrified plant imprints<\/strong>\u2014leaves, twigs, even roots captured in stone.<\/p><\/li>

        • Delicate rimstone and flow features<\/strong> created by mineral-rich water.<\/p><\/li>

            A specially protected<\/strong> show cave just 3.5 km from Miskolc<\/strong>, St. Stephen\u2019s Cave<\/strong> opens near Lillaf\u00fcred, about 500 m from the Palace Hotel<\/strong> beside the Eger\u2013Miskolc road. Visitors follow roughly 1,514 m<\/strong> of walkways through chambers stacked across a 101 m vertical range<\/strong>.<\/p>

            How it formed<\/strong>
            This is an intermittent spring (karst) cave<\/strong>. Rainwater on the L\u00e9tr\u00e1s-l\u00e1pa \u2013 Istv\u00e1n-l\u00e1pa<\/strong> plateau sinks through dolines, travels underground, and dissolves the limestone into galleries and shafts\u2014eventually breaking out as springs lower down.<\/p>

            Why it\u2019s unforgettable<\/strong><\/p>

            • Dramatic \u201csolution\u201d features like the Mammoth Hall<\/strong> and Mother Towers<\/strong><\/p><\/li>

            • Rich stalactite and flowstone<\/strong> formations<\/p><\/li>
